Clean versus replace
Hard surfaces almost always clean up. Cabinet interiors, range hood filters, worn carpet and old blinds are frequently cheaper to replace.
Paint order matters
Degrease, then a stain-blocking primer, then paint. Skipping the first two steps is why odor bleeds back through.
Confirm before you move in
Have it treated while the place is empty. It is faster, cheaper and less disruptive than working around furniture.
